Creative Card Crew Challenge #3

The Creative Card Crew Challenge this week was set by Paula and she has chosen 'Warm Colours' as a theme.

Papermania Colossal papers, coincidently named Nostalgia Warm, were perfect for what I had in mind and this rose paper is one of my favourites.
After trimming with a deckle edged blade, it was matted onto gold mirri card and then mounted onto a chocolate card blank.

The inside panel uses more of the same 12 x 12 paper mounted onto gold mirri card.

The fabric envelope I made was cut with pinking shears and then decorated with a button and ribbon.
This holds the greeting tag and the gold embossed rose tag which are tied together with more ribbons.

Anniversary Wishes

Today my parents celebrate 51 years of marriage ... and whilst I don't suppose for one minute their lives together have always been blissful, their commitment to their wedding vows and each other must be acknowledged.

At the risk of sounding like a fuddy duddy, I wish later generations had even a smidgeon of such staying power and then maybe there wouldn't be so much 'dysfunction' in our society.

Anyway ... I digress.
I used papers from a HOTP book of Pretty Papers to decorate a cream card blank and cut a circle and heart with scallop scissors to embellish the front pages which are only adhered at the folded edge.
Satin pink ribbon tied in a knot through punched holes, adds the finishing touch to the folded spine.
A wee peek inside reveals some layers using the offcut papers and a sentiment stamped onto pastel card has been gold embossed.

Winter Birds

My daughter's riding instructor asked if I would make her a special card for her mother for Christmas so I thought I'd better get a shift on before it's too late.

I also made a couple to add to my general Xmas card box but goodness only knows when I'll get a chance to write them, far less send them to anyone. There's always next year!!
Stop the bus!! ... I wanna' get off !!
These gorgeous Inkadinkadoo stamps are from the Winter Birds Collection and the detail in them is absolutely beautiful.
As usual my photos leave a lot to be desired but you'll get the idea.

I used gold and silver embossing powders but they would look equally stunning just as black silhouettes.
If I had dug them out earlier then I may well have managed to make enough cards for everyone this year as they really need little else added to make a lovely card.

Blitzen Cards

I found time this morning to make another couple of Christmas cards ... don't faint!

The Blitzen In A Blizzard stamp is one I bought from a sale bin several weeks ago when out and about with my wee friend Maggie 50 and it made me smile, but this is the first chance I've had to play with it.
I stamped with white ink on black card and then added white embossing powder before heating with a heat gun.
The background card is from DCWV "All Dressed Up" stack and the message is from a Serendipity Christmas stamp set. Not quite sure what went wrong with the silver glitter ... it went a wee bit runny and spreadable.
Talking about blizzards ... we were forecast a severe weather warning for last night and Naomi was really looking forward to the promised whiteout !
Instead we got the Big Thaw LOL!
One day they'll get it right.

Bursting With Pride

Have just got to tell you all ...

Despite the bowling disappointment at the weekend it turns out that things were not as bad as we thought. Naomi and her doubles partner actually scooped the Gold Medals on Sunday! So everyone else must've been playing badly too ... needless to say she is absolutely delighted and is smiling once more!

However, the icing on the cake is that we found out last night that our wee Naomi (and her fellow teammate Nicola who is only 12!) have both made the U16's Scottish Squad 2009 .... WHOO HOO!!!!
Not only did she make the Top 10 (which is what she wanted to achieve), but her final ranking place was 6th!!
Everyone is so chuffed for her ... can't wait for hubby to call so she can tell him.
She will have to formally accept her place and then will begin training with the top UK coaches with the opportunity to represent Scotland in International events next year.
I'm so proud I think I'm going to burst!

Here's her Congratulations card ... it was the least I could do.

Gold Embossing on Black

I treated myself to a large wood mounted stamp a few weeks ago but haven't used it ... until today.

It is a large floral silhouette type design and the only markings on it are ©Magenta.

Gold and black together always look quite dramatic and perfectly suit this stamp, so I decided to have a play with my heat gun and gold embossing powder on some black card.

I quite like how it turned out but need to improve my technique for embossing the edges.

Floral Slats

How many times have you found yourself left with lots of strips of gorgeous papers ... and no idea what to do with them?
Well instead of sticking them in a box, never to see the light of day again, why not try something like this?

I cut each strip to fit horizontally across a blank white card and before sticking them down, I inked all around the edge of them with a brown ink pad. Each strip was then butted up to the previous one to form a slat effect background.
Good effect huh?

I then gold embossed a floral stamp, a butterfly stamp and a greeting onto plain white card before using blending chalks to colour match it with the papers. This was then cut out with scalloped scissors and mounted onto gold mirri card. No more little scraps of paper cluttering up my boxes and a pretty card to boot. Job Done!!
